A friend of mine fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a professional makeup artist.
For her, going back to school and graduating was even more spectacular that she had imagined. Now, she set a new goal that would even drive her decision making process for the next decade: To become a renowned makeup artist nationally and internationally.
Today, Michelle runs a thriving makeup school and is being called upon by the rich and famous to help improve their looks. Achieving her goals wasn’t easy because along the way, she was discouraged by a lot of people.
A negative word is the most powerful weapon people will use against you to prevent you from reaching your lifetime goals. In Michelle’s case, several friends and family members simply told her that there is no money to be made in applying make-up so why should she bother?
You too will hear similar remarks when you announce to your friends and family about your new goal. So here’s how to do deal with it.
First, identify and visualize your goals to keep you motivated even if it means keeping a journal of things you are doing to reach your goal.
Second, do not pay attention to negative comments made by others because they will try to mentally sabotage your efforts.
Third, surround yourself with positive people who have similar interest to keep you on track and engage in positive self talk by using words such as can and will.
Having this purpose is like having a giant compass. Though you may not know where you are now, you will always end up at your destination if you play by the rules.
Succumbing to distractions will only prevent you from reaching your full potential. For your dream to become a reality you must choose to step forward – it happened for Michelle and it can happen for you.
