The jinx on Lagos -Abeokuta Expressway

"When work on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway was eventually abandoned by Julius Berger after having been on it for eight years, many people cried foul.
Although there have been reports that the company had to pack its equipment and ask its men to leave due to the fact that the Federal Government is owing it, this has not in any way cushioned the pain that commuters who ply the roads experience. Worse hit are the people who have to pass through Sango Roundabout, where a major overhead bridge is abandoned at a rather injurious stage.
Indeed, some fatalists have expressed the fear that there is a jinx on the road. They argued that there could be an evil spirit that needs to be seriously placated. Their argument is that if the road to the village of a former President could gulp eight years under the president’s nose, only to be eventually abandoned, there seems to be something mysterious about it.
We are not fatalists. But one now seems to have cause to understand those who hold the opinion. Reason: barely a year after, fast expanding potholes have started surfacing, even in the areas where Berger had finished work. And these have begun to sprout serious traffic jams, the type that commuters suffered for eight years when the construction was going on. Among such trouble spots is the Cement area of Ikeja.
The question, therefore, is whether there is really a jinx on the road, or whether Berger did not do it very well."
